Defend Against Complainers

Complainers are very popular. Many of us practice it from time to time. Others do not understand that they complain all their life unceasingly. I do not blame this behavior because it's difficult to avoid it when one feels bad. Even if little by little complaining becomes the way to live.


This is and was the theme of different researches. Complainers not only damage their own brain with continuous complains, they damage all those who lives and happens near them even if for a short time. Everybody knows the bad feeling we have near such persons. We can't help often. And they don't want to receive help. Their brain is just in that terrible state.


Once I wanted to help one girl who complained the betrayal of her husband. I felt sorry and thought, I had to listen to her. A kind of psychoanalyst gratis. Imagine, I listened to her for different months hours and hours every day from the morning - every time she could find me by phone. After it I could not continue this way and told her she had not to phone me more. Well, some days after it, one friend told me, that girl speaks everywhere bad about me...


So, I turn back to the researches. They proved that the negative thinking of other persons and continuous complaints create negative thinking and behavior in our own brains. And this is the reason why we have to avoid complainers as much as possible. 


As I wrote in my previous posts about the stress remedies, we have to avoid negativities as much as possible, first. 
Then, we have to control our reactions when something happens in our lives.
Finally, we have to create positive exposure for our brains as frequently as possible.

How to Forget Chronic Pains

Chronic pains are those that continue for more than 6 months. Many persons know this phenomen from personal experiences. Interesting is that it's so important that damages economies of entire countries which citizens do not work and use the resources of the country to cure chronic pains. Imagine that the negative profit caused to the finances by chronic pains is bigger than it's of oncological, cardiovascular and immunity deseases together.

This is the reason why the governments are interested in researches that could eliminate this problem.

Canadian researchers discovered the "root" of the chronic pains. It's the memory. Every pain that lasts for more than some minutes remains in the memory of the body thanks to a substance that remains in the nerves of the place where the pain was. This substance is proteinkinasa PKMzeta (hope, I spell the word right).

The researchers discovered that it's possible to block this substance with drugs. That allows to "cancell" the memory of the pain.

Maybe we will forget about the chronic pains in the next future...

News about Alzheimer Desease and Addictions

I dedicated some time to the news and feed readers today and here are the notices I fished there.

First and maybe most important notice is that it's possible to diagnose very early the Alzheimer desease, precisely. Scientists from Darmstadt discovered a protein that settles on the mucous of the nose. All the persons with different degrees of Alzheimer had this protein in their noses. Let's say it: we all are afraid to develop aging illnesses such as Alzheimer desease and other aging problems. That is why all the notices about new results of the researches seem so interesting to me.

The other notice is about the brains of the young persons that developed dependence from Internet. Chinese scientists discovered that these persons have the same brain malfunctions as the drug addicted. The affected parts are emotions, selfcontrol and capacity to take decisions.

By the way. If  you have solid nervous system, you can watch these two documentaries about the surgery departments of the hospitals that cure drug addicted after they assume Desomorphin. The films are in Russian but you do not need translation to understand the images.
And the images are really violent.

The problem with this medicine is that it causes necrosis of the parts that are far from the place where it was injected. The second film -if you will be able to watch it- shows the man and the woman during the first visit and the second after 2,5 weeks and some months.

Benefits of Olive Oil for Alzheimer’s Disease

Many surveys prove that what we are afraid of today are different mental problems, and Alzheimer’s Disease occupies one of the first places in the list of our fears. The last newsletter about the recent events brought me the notice that scientists found a very effective substance that will help in the cure of this terrible problem of aging.

In 1998, the team from Philadelphia wrote they understood how the bad elements work: they block the nerves, turn they out, and the person does not remember anything more.

Now, in October, the same team published the results of their last discovery that tells about the benefits of the main substance of the olive oil: it changes the structure of the toxic elements that act in the brain and do not allow them cause damages for our memory.

Well, before the scientists invent a new medicine maybe we have to use olive oil in our diet -in everyday salads, for example.

Parkinson’s Disease: New Research Results

Very interesting Release sent me now could be interestoing for you, too. I wanted to sorten the article but it is unpossible because everything is important here. Specially for those persons that are waiting for the news about this terrible desease. So, even if I'm maybe not right that I copy an entire article here, I do it because I'm sure it's can be a hope for sentient beings.

Pitt Researchers Using Mathematics
To Target Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms

University of Pittsburgh mathematicians, working with neurobiology researchers, are using computational models, experiments, and analysis of models and data to study the way that signals are transferred between the basal ganglia, a collection of nuclei found in the brain that helps with motor control, and the thalamus, its downstream target in the brain. Although scientists can’t yet prevent the cell death associated with Parkinson’s, their study of mathematical patterns could guide the development of less invasive treatments that block the motor symptoms of the disease.

“For Parkinson’s patients, there are more spurts and pauses in neural activity, and the firing of groups of neurons becomes more coordinated, leading to tremor and other symptoms,” said Jonathan Rubin, Pitt professor of mathematics and one of the principal investigators on the project. “The neuronal activity is like a woodpecker knocking on a tree outside your window; it distracts you when it first starts pecking, and then the silence grabs your attention when the pecking suddenly stops.  Similarly, the starts and stops in the neuronal activity can become disruptive to signal processing in the brain.”

Rubin said this firing pattern may be what leads those with Parkinson’s to experience shaking, rigid muscles, and difficulty in making quick movements. Currently, if side effects of drug treatments become too strong, surgeons fight these symptoms with deep brain stimulation (DBS), an aggressive but commonly used surgical treatment in which an implanted electrode literally penetrates the brain and sends out electrical impulses.

“It’s not quite understood how deep brain stimulation works,” said Rubin. “But it may be similar to the white noise of a window fan: It’s right there in your window next to you, so it’s potentially more distracting than a woodpecker. But actually, the regularity of the rhythm is less disruptive for you and your brain.”

Pitt researchers are trying to understand the neuronal activity patterns so they can improve the deep brain stimulation procedure, making it more individualized and efficient.

Along with Rubin, the principal investigators of the NSF award for the study of complex biological systems across multiple space and time scales are G. Bard Ermentrout, Distinguished University Professor of Computational Biology and professor of mathematics at Pitt; David Swigon, Pitt associate professor of mathematics; and Ivan Yotov, professor and chair in Pitt’s Department of Mathematics. The NSF grant partially funded the work of mathematics graduate student Pamela Reitsma, who carried out preliminary computational studies on the flow of signals from the basal ganglia under the supervision of Rubin and Brent Doiron, Pitt assistant professor of mathematics.

The principal investigators of the NIH grant are Pitt researchers Robert Turner, associate professor of neurobiology at Pitt; Brent Doiron, assistant professor of mathematics; and Rubin.
